Tate & Lyle PLC is a British-headquartered, global supplier of food and beverage ingredients to industrial markets. It was originally a sugar refining business, but from the 1970s began to diversify, eventually divesting its sugar business in 2012. It specializes in turning raw materials such as corn and tapioca into ingredients that add taste, texture, and nutrients to food and beverages.  10 Years ago the plant was closed down and production was moved to Singapore. Due to the ever growing demand for healthier products, coupled with volatile sugar prices, meant more production was required.  The plant has been up and running since 2012, and the time to upgrade the existing fixtures has come.  The majority of those fixtures are obsolete.  The GE H2 Filtr-gard fixture is a bigger “shoebox” looking fixture with a large ballast and heavy glass lens. This bulky fixture puts a lot of added weight and wear and tear on the infrastructure.  Reducing power consumption, along with reducing weight, along with the ease and quickness of installation was of great interest to them.

RETRUS™ was presented as an alternative to a complete new install.  A new install would entail new conduit, wire, mounting solutions and then fixtures.  Most of the time it requires the help of outside contractors due to the time and scope it takes.  The idea of not having to hire outside vendors and the ability to utilize the existing footprint of the fixture installed was a huge benefit in the decision to move toward “Retrofitting” vs new installation. The design of the RETRUS ™ coupled with the compact light weight body provided the perfect solution for replacement of any existing installation while only replacing the bottom portion of the fixture and helping save material and labor for upgrades in hazardous, wet, and dusty environments.
