Veolia Environment S.A., branded as Veolia, is a French transnational company with activities in four main service and utility areas traditionally managed by public authorities – water management, waste management, transport and energy services.  Veolia engineers, designs and constructs its own equipment to repair and maintain their client’s facilities.

A priority for its own operations, including equipment and facilities across Europe and the world. Engineering Lead, Jascha Frei of Veolia Nuclear Solutions began examining options for illumination within his OEM Fuel oil tanks. At the time, the type of fixture needed came with significant weight and size and relied on traditional light sources like metal halide.

A serious concern was the high heat factor being in such an enclosed area, but also the maintenance required by these type fixtures was time-consuming and expensive. This type of installation required a compact, lightweight, high lumen output fixture. Due to difficult access within these types of specific tanks added to the cost and time required for a simple lamp change, which was often only possible during planned downtime.

Looking for a more efficient, lightweight and reliable solution, Mr. Frei discovered Arcus. A pioneer in the lighting industry, in business over 130 years installing fixtures around the world. In addition to reducing heat with in the tanks—which translated to a safe working atmosphere—Arcus LED’s are some of the longest maintenance-free performance of any other industrial LED lighting manufacturer. The deployment of our UL-94 rated fireproof polycarbonate lens coupled with the compact light weight body provided the perfect solution for illumination in these extremely hazardous, wet environments.

There is a very noticeable difference between having the light and not, even with the little bit of daylight that shines into the tank.
